1st life’s challenge or lesson learned ….My conversion story
My conversion story began at the tender age of 5 after we had just experienced a difficult situation at church where my dad got into a spat with another person at church. Those details were unclear to me but we were chased out and never to return.
My dad was fuming and we walked home
We arrived home my dad had calmed down and proceeded to tell us we needed to pray so we all knelt down in our small lounge a semi detached house at 116a second Avenue Melville my dad asking for the Lord to guide and direct us to the truth as his experience of the day was not of the Lord. His plea to the Father was sincere and tearful words from his heart. I felt impressed by his humble manner as he seemed defeated.
I recall him saying Amen and we all repeated the amen. Three loud distinct taps on the front door seemed instantaneous.
I leapt to my feet ran to the door and opened it.
To find two very tall young men and they said
“We are from the church of a Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints we have come to share his message”
In my awe and wonder I froze in the doorway as thoughts buzzed around in my head at the speed God sent his angels.
Wow he works instantly.
I ran back into the lounge told my dad Gods angels were at the door he bellowed let them in!
They introduced themselves as Elder Brown and Elder Keithwood-Smith
I sat mesmerized as they shared their sweet messages and watched the faces of my family for their reactions while my heart felt like it would explode! The scripture if any man lack wisdom let him ask of God and it shall be given and it abraidith not - this
opened my understand of a truly loving Heavenly Father that hears and answers prayers just for the asking.
That was the key!
What joy was cultivated in my heart and mind on that day and for many weeks to follow, before the discussion came to be baptized. Imagine my shock and horror that I had to wait three years.
I remember being so distraught at the time and so jealous that 5 family members could be baptized but three of us would have to wait!
Finally the day came and it was the most precious time of my life as I took that covenant seriously but it became more precious to me because it was not instant and I remembered that I would be clean and have an opportunity to be a good person wiping away the things I had previously done.
I wanted to always choose the right. That set me on a path with the Holy Ghost as my companion that I have come to rely on from that day forth.
I’ve often wondered that out
Of a family of 8 why my conversion needed only that moment to secure my testimony of the Godhead and the love of Heavenly Parents.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the path for me was set no matter the obstacles in life.
I am so grateful for that privilege and the knowledge that gave me purpose through the challenges life has dished up for me. A daughter of my Heavenly a father. Who knows me personally, has hope that I will make the journey back to him regardless of what mistakes I make.
